Yes. I am guilty of ‘tsundoku’ — as many bookworms are. Sometimes we just need to know we can read that book at a moment’s notice.

Here are some of the books that have been on my to-be-read list the longest…

Titles link to Goodreads.

The King’s Last Song by Geoff Ryman – I absolutely loved Was and want to be affected by a book in that way again.

The First Detective: The Life and Revolutionary Times of Eugene Vidocq, Criminal, Spy and Private Eye by James Morton – First of all, that title. But I’ve been meaning to learn more about Vidocq after my awesome professor introduced me to him.

A Study In Celluloid: A Producer’s Account Of Jeremy Brett As Sherlock Holmes by Michael Cox – I devour anything written by the late Michael Cox and for me, Brett IS Sherlock.

Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife by Mary Roach – I do own this one. I have no excuse whatsoever.

The Discovery of Jeanne Baret: A Story of Science, the High Seas, and the First Woman to Circumnavigate the Globe by Glynis Ridley – I’m getting annoyed with myself, now. Why haven’t I read about this awesome pirate lady?

Aurorarama (The Mysteries of New Venice #1) by Jean-Christophe Valtat – This steampunkish, mystery adventure novel also has a stunning cover.

Myrna Loy: Being and Becoming by James Kotsilibas-Davis and Myrna Loy – Again, zero reason I haven’t read this. She is my favorite classic Hollywood actress. I even have a lovely vintage copy of this book.

Wodehouse: A Life by Robert McCrum – I added this after I basically ran out of Wodehouse to read (and reread). I don’t know of another author who can so consistently make me laugh.

Melmoth the Wanderer by Charles Robert Maturin – Gothic stories about doomed figures is just about my favorite. Now that Sarah Perry has a new book coming out based on Melmoth, I will have to read it soon.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë – Also inexcusable! I have a lovely old copy that was given to me as gift. And I’ve only read a handful of Anne’s poems.

What have you been meaning to read but just can’t seem to get around to it?

  1. The Tennant of Wildfell Hall is on my list as well…but then I got so many comments telling my how brilliant it was so perhaps this will motivate me to finally start it XD

  2. Oo I would definitely recommend The Tenant of Wildfell Hall – I picked it up recently after it had languished on my own TBR for quite some time and it was excellent! It’s probably my favourite Bronte novel that I’ve read (so far) and Anne is pretty much criminally overlooked in favour of Charlotte and Emily.
