Sometimes embarking on a new literary journey is just too much to contemplate. Sometimes, you just need to read a known quantity, a story you love — something comfortable. Here are some of my favorite comfort reads.

The reason we read is to go somewhere else, if only in our minds. In some books the setting is merely a backdrop. But in others, it is pervasive. We can immerse ourselves in another world. These are eight literary places* I would like to visit.

My biggest (writing) regret
If you have a story in you, write it. My biggest writing regret is not following through on writing a Bellairs story, and sharing it with Brad Strickland. It’s been 25 years since that letter arrived and I still feel guilty.
