I am absolutely relishing these long days, and dreading when we swing back around the Sun and it gets darker earlier. Even as far south as I live, there is still a hint of light at 9 p.m. and I love it.
Here is what I am reading this week.
American Eclipse by David Baron
Who is excited for the eclipse!? I am. We live very near the path of totality so we are going about 2 hours north to make sure we get to see the complete solar eclipse this August. So I’ve been reading up quite a bit on the history of eclipses. This book has been the most interesting one so far. Baron tracks dozens of these shadow hunters — likely and unlikely — as they traipsed across the untamed American west.
Frankenstein Dreams, edited by Michael Sims
Michael Sims always does a fabulous job of finding and editing collections of Victorian stories. This one focuses on early science fiction, inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. It’s a great selection of little-known stories by well-known authors, as well as tales forgotten to history.
Also, THAT COVER!
What are you reading this week?
I’m just the opposite. I like the longer nights. I’m looking forward to the days shortening. Summer vacation has begun and so has the extreme heat. Come see what I’m reading.
Those sound like very interesting books. I haven’t paid much attention to the path of the eclipse. I’ll have to check into it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
