Mercer wrote more than 1,500 songs. He won four Oscars (and was nominated for 14 more), founded Capitol Records (and gave Nat “King” Cole his first contract) and founded the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
What are you reading?
So many anticipated titles are released in the fall, which means lots of reading to catch up on for the next few months. Here is what I am working on this week.
THE MOON
The moon has always been with us. Even for early humans who didn’t quite understand the universe, the moon was a constant. It pulls our tides and tells turtles when to come ashore and bury eggs. It lights our way and directs our ships. It entrances moths. It acts as a calendar. Fifty years ago, we made it to the surface.
Films for Apollo50
Lunar films for the dreamers, the sci-fi enthusiasts, the skeptics and the dramatic. All available from DVD Netflix.
Books to watch for in 2019
The main reason I love writing about books is that I get a sneak preview of what’s coming. Remember when you were a kid and you got the giant catalog from JC Penney or Montgomery Ward and you would go through it and dream about your Christmas presents? Getting a publisher catalog and sifting through titles is a lot like that. And the fall / winter release season is always the biggest time of the year in book publishing. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is a preview of some of the books I can’t wait to read, coming out in the second half of 2019.
