Getting in on this bandwagon begin driven by Shannon. For absolutely no reason, I had a dry spell with the local library. This past month or so I have been using it again, primarily to investigate titles on my TBR list without buying something that I end up not liking. And, I had to be reminded that checking out books (whether you read them or not) helps the libraries with their circulation numbers. So, all good things.

Checked out

Mr Splitfoot by Samantha Hunt25363511

I am having a hard time getting into this one.

The Explorer’s Guild: A Passage to Shambhala by Jon Baird

Haven’t started yet.

Miss Hargreaves by Kevin Baker

Haven’t started yet.

Returned

51ZNgKo99oL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_Margaret the First by Danielle Dutton

So good. It is funny and sweet and feels very real.

Confessions of a Teen Sleuth by Chelsea Cain

I snorted out loud several times while reading this hysterical parody of Nancy Drew.

The Accidental Highwayman: being the tale of Kit Bristol, his horse Midnight, a mysterious princess, and sundry magical persons besides, by Ben Tripp

Long title, fun book. It started to peter out halfway through but still fun for kids.

The Spiritualist by Megan Chance

Argh, I wanted to like this one so much. The premise was great and it had a good set up. But within 50 or 60 pages it just fell apart. The main character made no sense and the “secret” was so obvious it was stupid.

Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke

Again, I wanted to like this but the tone was daft. I only made it a few pages and then opted for something else.

Returned without reading (ran out of time)

22561352Irrepressible: The Jazz Age Life of Henrietta Bingham by Emily Bingham

Definitely still interested in this one.

Constance Fenimore Woolson: Portrait of a Lady Novelist by Anne Boyd Rioux

I read the first chapter but I felt lost. I think I need to read some of Woolson’s work before I go back to this one.

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

I failed to notice this is the second in a series. Oops. I plan to return to it once I read the first one.

Gwendolen by Diana Souhami

Simply ran out of time. Still interested.

The Hours Count by Jillian Cantor

  1. Parody of Nancy Drew…I kind of like the sound of that! I used to love those books, but I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t stand up now.

    1. I know, I’m kinda scared to go back and read them. But when I was 8, they were awesome! (Kinda like MacGuyver)

  2. The Schwab series is fabulous! I hope you get to the first book soon. And I forgot about that Chelsea Cain Nancy Drew parody. That was a hilarious read!
