Leslie Caron Reading

I’ve been jumping around a bit this week. Trying to find the book that will stick with me, that I can’t ignore. And I’m trying to infuse my reading with Halloween-ish titles. It’s my favorite holiday so I basically celebrate for the six weeks leading up to it.

cpf73ciwgaauz98Nearly finished with The Secrets of Wishtide, a light cozy. Nothing wild here. Just a Victorian domestic mystery being solved by the intelligent and dogged sister of a London barrister.

eqnqvx41i6js7ivoa3l8Started Disappearance at Devil’s Rock weekend and not sure what I think yet. It is reminiscent of Stranger Things and Picnic at Hanging Rock. The present tense narrative is kind of distracting. But, I really loved A Head Full of Ghosts so I am going to stick with it for a bit more.

only_the_dead_cover_image-copyI started Only The Dead Know Burbank over the summer and then lost track of it during the house construction mess. I need to get back to it as it comes out soon. I really liked the handful of pages I had read.

Also, who is excited to see Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children? I loved the books and I’m hoping the movie stays true

  1. I’m excited for Secrets of Wishtide! I’m reading Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad at the moment, and I know when that’s done I’m going to want something light and fun, so The Secrets of Wishtide is looking like a very good option. 🙂

  2. Well, I just finished Something Wicked This Way Comes in preparation for Witch Week — that would be highly appropriate for your pre-Halloween celebration! Now I’m reading Summerlong by Peter S. Beagle (a gentle read, nothing spooky) and Onions in the Stew by Betty MacDonald, which coincidentally shares the Puget Sound island setting but is utterly un-fantastical. I love it when reading choices line up like that.

  3. I recently read an ARC copy of The Secrets of Wishtide, I thought it was a cute and cozy detective series. I am interested in your thoughts. I love Picnic at Hanging Rock so Only the Dead Know Burbank appeals to me. I am yet to read the Miss Peregrine series, I must start before the movie arrives!
    Have a great reading week!

  4. I still haven’t read Ms. Peregrine… and I’ll likely buy the movie when it comes out on DVD. I tend to collect movies based on YA books. Someday I’ll actually have to watch my collection. Here is my week. Happy reading!

  5. I have heard A Head Full of Ghosts is great, it is on my TBR list, maybe before the end of year. I enjoyed the Peculiar Children mainly for the unique pictures and look forward to the movie. I didn’t want to read further in the series though.
