After visiting Poe’s grave at Westminster Hall and Burying Ground, we walked the few blocks to Amity Street and were guests in his humble home. He lived at the address from 1833-35. His grandmother received a widow’s pension as the surviving wife of a Revolutionary War solider. She, an aunt, two cousins and Poe all lived in the tiny house.

Tours through the home are largely self-guided but there are very enthusiastic volunteers to answer questions. Throughout the space are informational posters and quotes.

There are a few artifacts, including the chair belonging to the Allan family and likely used by Poe. The attic room is made up to be Poe’s though it is unknown which was his bedroom.

We had a lovely visit. Check their website for opening hours and special events.
